GSE Net Zero Hub works with public sector organisations and their stakeholders to support the development and financing of local energy projects. The Hub's Public Sector Decarbonisation team supports organisations such as the NHS and schools with decarbonising buildings, particularly through low-carbon heat projects.
We spoke with Molly Gregory, Energy Project Officer at GSE Net Zero Hub, about how Searchland has become embedded in their daily workflow.
Challenges before Searchland:
- Manually searching the web for site constraints, such as listed status and land ownership
- Limited confidence in the accuracy of information found online
- Time-consuming processes that slowed down client support
Helping a primary school explore a solar farm
A small primary school wanted to explore the potential for a solar farm on nearby land. The school's business manager didn't have time to investigate the site, and nobody was sure whether the land belonged to the school or the council. However, using Searchland, the team quickly confirmed land ownership details and assessed key development considerations, including proximity to the nearest substation.
The school discovered they did, in fact, own the land and are now progressing with the solar project.
"Using Searchland, I was able to quickly confirm the land ownership details and assess some of the key development considerations."

Searchland is now the first step for every new enquiry
When a new NHS or school enquiry comes in, the first thing the GSE Net Zero team does is look up the site in Searchland to identify any immediate constraints before going into a meeting.
"Because of Searchland, I feel more prepared and informed during introductory conversations with clients."
Greater confidence in the data
Previously, the team wasn't always sure where their information had come from. Fragmented or incomplete data cost them time and money on wasted inquiries. Searchland has changed that.
"Now we can say with confidence that the data is reliable and regularly updated."
What's next for GSE Net Zero Hub?
The Hub currently supports 181 live projects and has worked with over 465 organisations across the Greater South East. As the team continues to scale its support for public sector decarbonisation, Searchland will remain a core part of how they assess sites and advise clients.
We look forward to our continued partnership with GSE Net Zero Hub as they empower public sector organisations to lead the charge in decarbonisation.
